Hey everyone! It has been a very busy last few months and I am excited to share about the things that have occurred.
Living Water Aquaculture’s Goal
Living Water Aquaculture seeks to fight human trafficking, rescue more orphans, and spread the Gospel through helping the City of Refuge orphanage in Honduras have more sustainable income to put towards their mission. We do this through taking an engineering approach to agriculture on the COR's farm to increase sustainability, and by providing engineering consulting in other areas that the orphanage needs.
Our three main sustainability projects that we are currently working on are setting up an efficient aquaculture farm, helping the orphanage to produce all their animal and fish feed themselves, and partnering with Sonlight Power to bring solar to the campus.
Continued Progress
Over the last 2 months many exciting things have occurred to move us closer to this goal.
Some of these things include:
Having 4 engineers committed to the summer mission team and hoping to have several more over the next month
Finding a way to significantly reduce power costs on the tilapia farm through the use of a very efficient centrifugal pump
Being able to aerate the whole pond at no additional energy cost through connecting a venturi attachment to our inlet pipe (See link below)
The filtration media from America arrived on COR property. This was the hardest piece of the filter to source. (See link below)
Ran a successful backwash test on the filter which is it’s most critical feature (See link below)
We have started the designs for the warehouses that will house the feed equipment and store the feed (See link below)
We completed the recipes for the tilapia and chicken feed and have begun the recipe for the pig feed (See attached)
We have found cost efficient suppliers for all critical ingredients needed to make feed for the tilapia and chickens
Spreadsheets have been created to calculate headloss within our systems and to calculate the aeration within the tilapia tanks (See attached)
We've done a significant amount of research into initial water quality treatment, made progress on several operations manuals, started new relationships with several shipping companies, and put plans in place for many of the practical aspects with running the tilapia farm
COR plans to have 3 phase power arrive in May and this will be very helpful with our goal of being able to produce animal and fish feed for the entire farm
Representatives from Sonlight Power have visited COR and Sonlight plans to have a proposal for the solar design at COR ready by the middle of April
Through a combination of the feed project, bringing solar to the campus, and the revenue from the tilapia tanks the City of Refuge is projected to have between $100,000-200,000 of savings and additional money per year. COR will then use this money to dive deeper into their fight against human trafficking, rescue many more orphans, and to spread the Gospel to many more.
Some additional things the team has been able to participate in includes taking turns leading a weekly small group, leading several worship nights with the kids, spending time as a team in morning prayer, and going to various outreaches to the surrounding community.
I have been extremely impressed with the work that the team has done over these last few months. They have worked hard and served faithfully and I am very grateful for the time they have devoted. Could not have asked for a better team.
Prayer Requests
Please pray that we would devote ourselves as humble servants and stay focused towards serving God and serving others
That God would grant us the discernment needed to make wise choices that are pleasing to Him
That God would allow our work to bear much fruit
Thank you,
JD Crawford
